The Pili R&D Center focuses on providing S & T based intervention to the industry by developing enhanced production technologies expected to increase the yield and overall production of pili nuts thereby meeting the required supply of raw and processed pili nut products and by-products. Correspondingly, a promotional support mechanism including the creation of enabling policy recommendations for this growing industry shall be provided as an offshoot of the program

The center will focus on crustaceans (crabs, shrimps, prawn), which is very important to eastern Visayas.

A center that assesses flora and faunal diversity, habitat types and composition of Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) of Cebu through the Biodiversity Monitoring Systems (BMS) and studies the interconnections and links between the components leading to protection and conservation of endangered endemic floral and faunal species (e.g. keystone species).

Cacao R&D Center | NICER

The center deals with providing interventions in increasing cacao production through multiplication and utilization of QPMs from molecularly identified and certified NSIC HYVs and Criollo parental trees; upgrading of cacao gene bank for conservation and utilization for varietal improvement; and development of optimized post-harvest processing approaches for improved quality of cacao beans.

Center for Freshwater Fisheries | NICER

Led by Isabela State University

The program involves R&D for the management of the indigenous fisheries resources of the Cagayan Valley Region with emphasis on the high valued species, lobed river mullet or Ludong and freshwater eelswhich are present in the Cagayan River system. This will focus on developing artificial breeding and culture techniques for these species with information on their natural habitats to determine options for their management.
